First Quarter of 2020 Sees an Internet Growth to 366.8 Million Domain Registrations

VeriSign has announced that the first quarter of 2020 closed with 366.8 million domain name registrations across all top-level domains (TLDs), an increase of 4.5 million domain name registrations, or 1.2 percent, compared to the fourth quarter of 2019. Domain name registrations have grown by 14.9 million, or 4.2 percent, year over year.

The .com and .net TLDs had a combined total of 160.7 million domain name registrations in the domain name base  at the end of the first quarter of 2020, an increase of 1.8 million domain name registrations, or 1.1 percent, compared to the fourth quarter of 2019.

The .com and .net TLDs had a combined increase of 5.9 million domain name registrations, or 3.8 percent, year over year. As of March 31, 2020, the .com domain name base totaled 147.3 million domain name registrations, and the .net domain name base totaled 13.4 million domain name registrations.

New .com and .net domain name registrations totaled 10.0 million at the end of the first quarter of 2020, compared to 9.8 million domain name registrations at the end of the first quarter of 2019.

Total country-code TLD (ccTLD) domain name registrations were 157.4 million at the end of the first quarter of 2020, a decrease of 0.2 million domain name registrations, or 0.1 percent, compared to the fourth quarter of 2019.
